Sick and tired

Published by admin under Current work

fairysketch1.jpgI have been sick for four days. I guess I should have taken that flu shot at the beginning of the season. I have not been overly productive because of this creeping crud but I did manage to get this drawing of a fairy done before the deluge hit. It is part of a personal project I have running on the back burner, to create a series of fantasy figures. As a commercial artist I am allowed to have a fun project that is not linked to making money right? I just thought I would check. Anyway, here is the drawing. I will probably paint it, if I still like it in a couple of days, otherwise it is back to the drawing board.

Playing around

Published by admin under Current work

assassin-2.jpgEarlier this week I wrote a little blurb describing the inhabitants of a fictious planet called Primoptical. In a purely self indulgent follow up to this bit of whimsy, I created a quick drawing of what these “assassins” look like. There is now a part of me that wants to create a web book based on the “wanderings” of my author; a sort of travel log that describes the various inhabitants, cultures, and curiosities of said travels, a sort of Rick Steves meets Douglas Adams anthology. Because what I really need in my life is another distraction.

I should probably paint it.

Project #5 Album cover

Published by admin under Class Notes, NIC

prince-album-cover1.jpgThis is the last assignment (yahoo). The students are to create a album/CD cover using any combination of techniques and media covered this semester. For example, I created this quick high contrast (assignment 1; faces) picture of Prince added some typographic elements (assignment 3; pen and ink) and rendered it in purple gouache (assignment 1; faces). I’ve included my visual class notes (albumsmall.pdf) here as well and started an introduction of how this high contrast piece of art can also be used as a mask in Photoshop and how that can be utilized to push the envelope a little giving us powerful digital design options on top of our relevant illustration skills.
